Description:
The Basic Life Support Instructor Course is designed to aid the already practicing healthcare provider in developing the knowledge and skills necessary to teach the management of sudden cardiac arrest and healthcare level CPR resulting efficiently and effectively in improved outcomes.
Ideal Instructor Candidates should be motivated to:
- teach
- facilitate learning
- ensure that students acquire the skills needed for successful course completion
- view student assessment to improve individual knowledge and skills
This BLS CPR Instructor Course is designed to prepare individuals to become instructors for "BLS" as well as all "Heartsaver" CPR and First Aid classes.
Make sure your current provider card reads, "BLS." If it is labeled "Heartsaver," this is not the course you need.
Course Prerequisites:
- Accepted for alignment with an AHA Training Center
- Possess a current, valid AHA BLS Instructor card.
- Completion Certificate for the online course, BLS Instructor Essentials
- Completion Certificate for the online course, BLS Instructor Orientation Course (course included with registration)
- Registered with the AHA Instructor Network.
- If you are already an AHA instructor in another discipline, or if you have been one in the past, you must provide us with your Instructor Network ID number. If you need assistance in accessing the Instructor Network, call 1-800-242-8721. Do not create a new account.
Instructor candidates are responsible for having their own instructor and provider manuals (must be the latest edition, having the new guidelines). THE MANUALS MUST BE BROUGHT TO THE CLASSROOM SESSION IN ORDER TO BE ELIGIBLE TO RECEIVE AN AHA CPR INSTRUCTOR CERTIFICATION CARD. If you do not already possess the required manuals, please add these manuals to your cart when enrolling for your class.

Course Monitoring:
Within 6 months following the successful completion of the Instructor course, the instructor candidate must be monitored teaching by Training Center Faculty (The TC may require additional monitoring, if needed).
Certification Cards:
BLS Instructor certifications are valid for a period of 2 years. To maintain BLS Instructor status, you must teach a minimum of 4 BLS classes during your 2-year certification period prior to renewal.
Basic Life Support (BLS) Instructor Essentials Online
Description:
BLS Instructor Essentials is the self-directed, online portion of the BLS Instructor Essentials Blended Learning Course. The course educates instructor candidates on how to adequately use AHA Instructor teaching materials and follow AHA Instructor and course policies. Upon completion of the course, Instructors can teach the BLS Provider Course, the HeartCode BLS Hands-On Session, and any course within the Heartsaver portfolio.
The BLS Instructor Essentials Course is taught in a blended learning format. AHA BLS Instructor candidates must complete the online portion, followed by the hands-on session conducted by BLS Training Center Faculty. Prior to taking this course, candidates must have a current BLS Provider course completion card.
Audience
This course must be completed by candidates who wish to become AHA BLS Instructors.

BLS Instructor Orientation Course
The Instructor Orientation Course is MANDATORY per DISCIPLINE, and for all Instructors to complete prior to attending the classroom portion of their instructor training program. This pre-requisite course is MANDATORY and INSTRUCTOR CARDS WILL NOT BE ISSUED to students who have not successfully completed this course in addition to all the other instructor requirements. This Orientation Course replaces Instructor affiliation fees that were a previous obligation to receive instructor cards. This course is password protected, and so the key code you receive will be considered your password into the course. Each password is DISCIPLINE SPECIFIC, so make sure you are using the correct password for each discipline (i.e. a BLS, ACLS, or PALS).
If you need to reschedule your course, you will be allowed to reschedule one time. Please email your request at least 24 hours before your initially scheduled course.
