Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Course Options

Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) is available in two different training methods – blended learning and classroom training. All ACLS course options teach the same AHA science-based skills and result in the same AHA ACLS Course Completion Card.

Blended Learning (online portion, followed by hands-on skills session)

HeartCode ACLS uses a variety of eLearning assets such as dramatizations, eSimulations, animations, self-directed learning, team dynamics training, megacode cases, and interactive activities to teach students ACLS knowledge and skills.

HeartCode ACLS is the AHA’s ACLS blended learning delivery method. Blended learning is a combination of eLearning, in which a student completes part of the course in a self-directed manner, followed by a hands-on skills session.

  • To enter the course, students must complete the ACLS Precourse Self-Assessment.
  • Students are then presented with an enhanced learning experience through eSimulations, life-like animations, video scenarios, and knowledge checks.
  • Cases may be repeated as many times as necessary to pass. Upon successful completion of all the patient cases, students must pass the multiple-choice exam with a minimum score of 84%.
  • Web-based, self-paced eSimulation instructional program for ACLS cognitive training.
  • Students apply knowledge to real-time decision-making and skills development
  • Debriefings and coaching are provided immediately after each simulation to facilitate learning.

Instructor-led (hands-on class format)

The ACLS Instructor-led course teaches both single-rescuer and team basic life support skills for application in both prehospital and in-facility environments, with a focus on High-Quality CPR and team dynamics.

  • Emphasis on high-quality CPR including a team dynamics classroom activity
  • Video-based course with real world scenarios. Includes realistic, clinical scenarios that encourage active participation – delivered through actual pediatric patient videos and lifelike simulations
  • Hands-on class format to reinforce skills proficiency

AHA STUDENT MANUAL AND TEXTBOOK POLICY

Each student must have the current, appropriate course textbook of their own readily available for use before, during, and after the course.

Textbooks are designed for individual use and are an integral part of the student’s education. Students may reuse their textbooks during renewals or updates UNTIL NEW SCIENCE GUIDELINES ARE PUBLISHED. (i.e. 2020 AHA Update)

The American Heart Association (AHA) designs their resuscitation courses using the most current educational design concepts. In order to maximize the students’ learning potential and keep course length manageable, the AHA have designed the classroom courses with the intent that students will have the opportunity to study the course materials outside of the class itself. It is necessary that students have access to student manuals before, during, and after each course, especially if the students are less familiar with the skills.

RESCUE ELITE BOOK POLICY

NO BOOKS may be returned or refunded for any reason. Books may not be issued during the course and then returned for a refund; this includes if it has been unopened. Books may also not be shared during the course; this is against American Heart Association rules and guidelines. Per AHA Rules, each student must have their own current book in order to attend an AHA course.

* A MANUAL IS REQUIRED IN A COURSE OR YOU MAY NOT ENTER. *
